This morning it was actually raining when I walked my two minutes to work…however, by mid-morning there were whiteout snow conditions and plummeting temperatures.

Now, this evening, numerous highways are closed around northern Ontario. This highway map from the Ministry of Transportation shows the closed roads with hashed bars.  Cochrane is underneath that pile of bars in the upper-right!

On Saturday, Gerald took Cam, Damian, Pat, Yves, and myself to Mount Kanasuta in Quebec to go skiing.  We had a wonderful day together!

Perhaps this post’s title will cause less confusion than “Downhill Skiing” :-p

Here’s a short video I put together using footage from our snowmobiling last weekend:

This also marks my first upload to YouTube :-)

Here are some “portrait” photos from this past weekend :-)

Shortly after noon on Friday, Ben, Melissa, and Jacob arrived for the weekend.  We had a great time together!

Friday afternoon, and Saturday, we went snowmobiling.  Here are some photos from our adventures:

You can get stuck even with an 800, especially if the drift is 4 or 5 feet deep!

Yup, it was chilly that evening…at least -25C (-13F)

I’m thinking of posting some videos on YouTube later…for fun, as an experiment, to try it, ect.

While looking for a Week # reference site this week, I found a graphical display of the day/night zones around the world.  For example, here’s what it looks like around 9pm EST on Jan 12, 2008:

Speaking of dates and times, hopefully less than a fortnight will pass before I post again!

While we were in Quebec, Cameron and I took the opportunity to do some downhill skiing. We skied once at Mont Tremblant, once at Mont Saint-Sauveur, and several times at Mont-Blanc.  Snow conditions were superb, with Tremblant claiming the best opening season in something like 60 years!

View this morning from the front picture window. Although scale is hard to tell, we have ~3 feet of (un-drifted) snow!  The pile is from the driveway being plowed.
